FAQ

Do I really need to seek help? I’ve always been able to take care of my own problems…

Even if you’ve been able to manage well enough in the past; you may find your usual ability to cope and take care of problems is no longer working; or if you feel stuck and overwhelmed it’s time to take that 1st step to make a change. I can help you move forward in your life.

Can we talk on the phone first?

Yes, I’m happy to have a free phone consultation up to 20 minutes with you for us both to evaluate if it’s the right fit. I can help you with referrals as well if needed.

What can I expect the first time seeing you?

On the first visit, I will ask you what’s going on in your life right now, a bit more about your history including the people who are closest to you. This is also a good time for you to talk about your expectations and ask me about any concerns or questions you may have.

What are your rates and do you accept insurance?

Me fees are within the range of many other experienced therapists in my area. If you find you have a difficult time with my fee, I have a limited number of sliding scale slots available depending on a given time. I’m open to discuss how we can work together financially. Insurance; at your request, I can provide you with a monthly invoice. You submit these to your insurance company and get reimbursed what is allowed for an out-of-network provider. This will depend on what type of insurance you have and your insurance policy.

Is everything I tell you confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.

However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions include:

  1. Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  2. If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police.

  3. If a client intends to harm himself or herself. I will make every effort to work with the client to ensure their safety. However, if a client does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.

What if I need to cancel our appointment?

If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, and you have not notified me at least 48hrs in advance, you will be required to pay the fee of your scheduled session.

Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any other questions and/concerns.
